Last week was my birthday. This year the celebration involved no alcohol on my part, mostly due to the chemo treatments. I did not miss it. Well to be honest, maybe just a bit. 😏 It has come to my attention lately however that there is a connection between alcohol consumption and cancer. I was not aware of that. Between smoking and cancer:definitely! Between alcohol and cancer: only if you are an alcoholic, I thought. Don't get me wrong, I am not implying that the cancer I have was caused by my wine-drinking habit. But evidence does show that the rates of gastro-intestinal and breast cancer go up with increased alcohol consumption and of course increased alcohol content in the beverage. It does not seem to matter what kind of alcohol one consumes: spirits, beer or wine. So, I am saving that bottle of wine for special occasions from now on, instead of the 1 or 2 habitual glasses with an evening meal. I figure it is better to be safe than sorry. And I wonder what the wine producing countries have to say about that.
I was not aware. Are you?
